Sammy Clark
Today a generational singer passes away at 73 years of age. Sammy Clark was an icon in the Arab world and his voice is unforgettable.
The voice that reminds us of our youth, of a time with no problems a time of peace and unity. Sammy will always remind us that Duke Fleed will always win the battle because of his high morals, that he will defeat King Vega because he is evil. That Jim will find Treasure Island because he is hopeful and hardworking. Sammy Clarks voice is well known throughout the Arab World and not just the Levant.
Sammy was a Lebanese singer, who had his career peak in the 1980s. Clark began his music career in the late 1960s, a few years after joining the Faculty of Law at the Jesuit University in Beirut without graduating there. He won several international prizes throughout his lifetime, such as the Menschen und Meer prize in Austria for his song Mori Mori, which granted him international recognition. His songs are characterized by romanticism and his distinct operatic voice. Besides Arabic (Lebanese) and English, Clark sang in Armenian, French, Italian, and Russian. He was famous for performing the score of popular cartoons in the 1980s, most notably for singing the Arabic theme song of the Japanese anime "Grandizer" and “Treasure Island” . Clark was also the head of the union of Lebanese artists. He briefly performed as part of a trio called "The Golden Age" with his fellow Lebanese singers, Prince Al Sagheer and Abdo Munzir.
The New Mosaic Family is devastated to see a legend from our youth pass away. We are sad that we won’t be hearing your voice again, and all we have to say is:
“ علي علي بطل فليد”
